About the Role
We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Director – Artificial Intelligence to lead the design, development, and execution of enterprise AI initiatives that accelerate business innovation and operational excellence. This is a senior leadership role requiring a unique combination of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and people leadership.
The successful candidate will build and lead a high-performing AI engineering organisation, oversee the delivery of scalable AI platforms and intelligent automation solutions, and establish best practices for deploying AI technologies across the enterprise. The role demands close collaboration with global business and technology teams to ensure AI solutions are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with organisational objectives.
In addition to driving execution, the Director will actively monitor the evolving AI landscape, assess emerging technologies, and recommend opportunities to build, partner, or adopt external AI capabilities that create measurable business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and technical leadership for the organisation’s AI engineering and platform initiatives.
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing, geographically distributed AI engineering team while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of enterprise AI solutions, including AI platforms, model deployment, intelligent automation, and production AI services.
- Define engineering standards, development methodologies, governance frameworks, documentation practices, and technical review processes to ensure consistent delivery excellence.
- Design and oversee scalable AI infrastructure supporting model development, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native AI architectures and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure automation, and observability.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, Business, and Operations teams to identify AI opportunities and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies, foundation models, open-source frameworks, orchestration platforms, and vendor offerings to determine the most effective technology strategy.
- Recommend build-versus-buy decisions and establish technology partnerships that optimize innovation, cost, scalability, and speed to market.
- Ensure AI systems meet enterprise standards for security, reliability, performance, governance, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Promote reusable AI services, APIs, frameworks, and best practices to enable rapid adoption of AI capabilities across business functions.
- Provide executive-level visibility into project status, technical risks, resource planning, delivery timelines, and strategic priorities.
- Champion continuous improvement across AI engineering through automation, testing, performance optimisation, and operational excellence.
- Support production operations by establishing robust monitoring, incident management, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline. An advanced degree is preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud technologies, AI/ML, or enterprise technology platforms, with significant experience leading engineering organisations.
- Proven track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams across multiple locations and collaborating effectively with global stakeholders.
- Strong expertise in cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS, along with modern software architecture and platform engineering principles.
- Hands-on experience delivering enterprise-grade AI or machine learning solutions from concept through production deployment and ongoing operations.
- Deep understanding of AI application architecture, model deployment strategies, APIs, data engineering, workflow automation, and production support.
- Experience establishing engineering governance, delivery frameworks, operational processes, and technical quality standards.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to engage both technical and business audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to balance innovation with operational stability while delivering measurable business outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MLOps, AI platform engineering, model lifecycle management, inference services, and production machine learning environments.
- Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and orchestration frameworks.
- Experience working with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, GPU infrastructure, distributed computing environments, or similar cloud-native technologies.
- Exposure to AI-driven automation, speech technologies, natural language processing, computer vision, or intelligent content processing solutions.
- Experience evaluating commercial AI platforms, open-source ecosystems, and enterprise AI vendors.
- Knowledge of media, entertainment, digital content, localisation, or other data-intensive industries will be an added advantage.
